This exhibition featured 350 rugs and carpets from the remote regions of Tibet, Xinjiang (East Turkestan), Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Gansu and Qinghai. It included such items as a throne cover from Ningxia and a frog footprint rug from Tibet and even a hanging carpet woven with a portrait of Chairman Mao Tsetung. It showed how antique carpets made by remote ethnic groups for such purposes as furnishing a Mongolian yurt, can be used to enhance the decor of a modern home. |
