In the biggest exhibition of old and antique Chinese rugs ever held in Hong Kong, over 500 hand-woven rugs from four remote provinces of China - Tibet, Ningxia, Mongolia and Xinjiang (East Turkestan) - will be on show in our Fall exhibition.
The four provinces are home to many ethnic groups with rich artistic, cultural and religious traditions, and the hand-woven rugs from these regions are tangible testimony to those fascinating traditions.
Chinese antique rugs are popular with collectors because of their historical value, sophisticated craftsmanship, lively patterns and designs, aesthetic beauty and softness to the touch. As Chinese rugs age, they become very mellow and soft. So together with their primitive look, Chinese antique rugs are much more relaxed and cozy than Persian rugs, which tend to be formal and overly refined.
We have journeyed far and wide across the plains and steppes of China to seek prime examples of the rug-weaver's art, dating back as far as the 15th century.
So join us to see how an antique rug, perhaps originally used inside a Tibetan temple, can blend perfectly with the decor of your 21st-century interiors.
